These Sweet Potato fritters are crispy on the outside and tender juicy on the inside and are wonderful comfort food that you can make in 10 minutes for the whole family to enjoy.
They are easy to make and only require a few ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen. These fritters are the perfect side dish for any meal or can be enjoyed as a snack. We serve them with sour cream or homemade Chipotle dipping sauce on the side and they're absolutely delicious.
Making Sweet Potato Fritters
Sweet potato fritters are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or side dish. I'm going to share my recipe for sweet potato fritters with you all. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Both, Air Fryer and skillet methods are given. Previously I cooked them in a skillet with a thin layer of oil. And lately started cooking them in the air fryer. My kids are obsessed.
Ingredients
- 1 large sweet potato, peeled and shredded
- 1 large egg, whisked
- ⅓ cup parmesan cheese, grated (or shredded mozzarella cheese)
- ¼ cup flour (can sub for almond flour)
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar (optional)
- salt and pepper to taste
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon oregano
- 2 tablespoons green onions, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons cooked bacon crumbles (optional)
- Oil of choice. I use Avocado oil.
DIRECTIONS
- Grate or shred the potatoes. I love using my Braun Multiquick Food processor. It takes approx 30 seconds to shred the potatoes to the desired consistency.
- Transfer shredded potatoes into a nut milk bag and soak them in cold water for 30 minutes, changing the water a few times. This step is optional and helps to remove the excess starch from potatoes. Since sweet potato is a slightly starchy vegetable.
Squeeze the moisture out of the shredded potatoes using the nut milk bag. - In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients, except oil, until well combined.
- In a large skillet, heat a thin layer of oil over medium heat.
- Using a spoon, add rounds of the mixture to the skillet and press into a pancake/fritter shape with the help of spatulas. I love using this OXO high-quality Silicone spatula and is excellent for flipping pancakes and fritters.
- Cook in the skillet over medium heat for 3 minutes per side or until they are golden brown.
- Serve with a dollop of sour cream on top, or your favorite dipping sauce. I loved serving mine with homemade Chipotle dipping sauce.
Sweet Potato Fritters in the Air Fryer
- Proceed with steps 1,2,3 as per above.
- Line air fryer basket or tray with Air Fryer parchment paper.
- Add rounds of the mixture to the air fryer tray and press into a pancake shape with the help of spatulas. This OXO high-quality Silicone spatula is excellent for flipping pancakes and fritters.
- My air fryer oven-type style allowed me to cook 6 fritters at a time. Depending on your air fryer size and style you may fit more or less. Cook in batches, if needed.
- Air fry mode at 400F/200C 3-4 minutes per side flipping once. Or until it is cooked through and the skin is golden brown and crispy.
4 Ways to Make Sweet Potato Fritters Even More Delicious
