Air Fryer hot dogs are a new amazing way to cook them with toasted buns. Made in an air fryer in minutes, I love how they get slightly crispy skin while keeping the inside moist and juicy.
I love how with an air fryer, you can pop the hot dogs in, go do your thing, and come back to perfectly cooked hot dogs in no time. Trust me, once you try air fryer hot dogs, there's no turning back.
This means that we can have perfectly crispy hot dogs without having to stand over a hot grill. And, since air fryers cook food quickly, my family can have hot dogs on the table in no time. My kids keep it simple with ketchup and mustard topping. I love my dogs on a perfectly toasted bun topped with caramelized onions or onions and mushrooms and cheese.

How to make Frankfurters in the air fryer
Pro tip: For the best results, prick the hot dogs a few times with a fork. Or make a few slits using a knife. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from splitting.
- Preheat your air fryer to 390°F/195°C for 3 minutes (air fry/air crisp setting)
- Place your hot dogs in the air fryer.
- Cook for 3 minutes per side
- Gently remove hot dogs from the air fryer using a fork and place them in the prepared hot dog bun. I love my buns toasted.
How to make Hot Dogs and Toasted Buns at the same time
Toasting the buns in the air fryer is simple and only takes a minute or two.
- First, preheat the air fryer to 390F/195C for 3 minutes (air fry/air crisp setting).
- Place your frankfurters in the air fryer
- Cook for 2 minutes per side
- While the dogs are cooking add a pat of butter to each bun. Or spread mayo. (Picture 1). Adding butter or mayo to the buns is optional. However, it does give the buns a crispy and buttery outer layer.
- After 4 minutes, place the buns in the air fryer and toast for about 2 minutes or until golden brown. You can toast the buns at the same temperature along with the hot dog's remaining time or you can put the hot dog inside the bun and cook for the remaining time. (Pictures 2 and 3).
How many hot dogs can I cook in the Air fryer at the same time?
You can cook as little as one or two, or up to 8-12 hot dogs at once in the Air fryer. My Ninja 6-in-1 can comfortably fit 6 to 10 hot dogs at once. Although Ninja says that it can cook up to 24 hot dogs, I did not try that many at once yet.
And since they cook quickly in the air fryer, you can cook hot dogs in batches.
Can I cook frozen Hot Dogs in the air fryer?
Yes! You can also cook frozen hot dogs in the Air fryer with preheating. It will take a little longer than cooking them from thawed.
Make sure they are not stuck together and each dog is separated. You can also thaw them in the air fryer by cooking them for 4-5 minutes, then separate them.
Cook for 4-5 minutes per side.
Keep an eye on them, though, as they may need a few extra minutes depending on their size. Frozen hot dogs.
May I recommend Serving Hot Dogs with
Potato salad - The creamy dressing and chunks of potatoes complement the savory flavor of the hot dogs perfectly.
Coleslaw, baked beans, creamy cucumber radish salad, and corn on the cob.
You can also keep it simple with air-fried potato chips or French fries.
For a lighter option, serve with a simple green salad. The crisp lettuce and veggies will give a refreshing contrast to the rich hot dogs.
Toppings
I love my dogs to be topped with all sorts of deliciousness. One of my favorites is to load them with sauteed onions and melt the cheese on top. Instead of ketchup, I dip the hot dogs in my homemade Chipotle sauce.
The possibilities are nearly endless. Here are a few topping ideas:
- sauerkraut
- onions
- chili
- cheese
- ketchup
- mustard
- relish
- mayonnaise
- bacon
- pickles
