Let's try something new - Pumpkin Fries! May French Fries forgive us 🙂
Most of us have tried French fries or even made them at home - Air Fryer French Fries. But potato is not the only vegetable that can have this delicious taste and crispness.
Pumpkin fries are the perfect air fryer snack! They're crispy on the outside, yet fluffy on the inside, and they have a wonderful pumpkin flavor that will tantalize your taste buds. And best of all, they're so easy to make! Simply slice a pumpkin into fry-sized pieces, coat in oil and seasoning, and air fry until golden brown. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, like this Homemade Chipotle Mayo, and enjoy!
How to Cut Pumpkin for Pumpkin Fries
When cutting a pumpkin, it is important to use a sharp knife (I use this 7" ultra-sharp kitchen knife) and to be careful not to cut yourself. Here are some simple instructions for how to slice pumpkin:
- Start by cutting off the top of the pumpkin, as well as the bottom. You can then cut the pumpkin in half or in quarters, depending on how large it is.
- Scoop out the seeds and the stringy pulp from the inside of the pumpkin.
- Once your pumpkin is clean, you can start slicing it into thin pieces for pumpkin fries, or thick wedges for carving that are about 1-inch thick. If you want to make pumpkin fries, you can cut the slices into smaller strips.
- You can then oil and season your pumpkin slices and proceed with air-frying (instructions are below in the recipe card)
- Place the pumpkin slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. You can then bake them at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20 minutes, or until they are soft on the inside, golden brown and crispy around the edges.
Ingredients
- ½ Medium Sugar Pumpkin or Pie Pumpkin. Carving pumpkin will work just as well.
- 2 tablespoons Avocado oil
- ½ teaspoon coarse sea salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon seasoning of choice. I used Trader Joe's BBQ Rub and seasoning with coffee and garlic.
- ½ teaspoon Salt-free veggie blend.
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
Directions
- Using a sharp knife, cut the pumpkin in half. Scoop out the seeds and pulp. Cut pumpkin into French fry slices. (I use this 7" ultra-sharp kitchen knife)
- In a large bowl mix pumpkin slices with oil and seasoning.
- Rub the seasoning blend onto pumpkin fires. I suggest using a container or zip-lock bag to shake the raw pumpkin slices with oil and seasoning blend.
- Next, place the slices in the fryer basket (tray)
- Spread them out evenly on the cooking sheet so they don’t overlap.
- Air fry in a preheated air fryer oven at 390 F/ 190C for 12 minutes or until beautifully golden browned with a caramelized look.
- Flip halfway (6 minutes per side)
- Bon Appétit!
Air Fryer Pumpkin Recipe Tips
- Cut the pumpkin slices thin. The thicker the piece, the longer it will take for the middle to cook.
- If you do not have all the suggested spices on hand, do not worry. Pumpkin fries are amazing on their own with just a bit of salt. You can add the spices and seasoning of your choice.
- Pumpkin Fries (or Oven roasted pumpkin) are a healthy and high-value treat for dogs. Season them with just a bit of cinnamon.
