How to make Summer Squash in the Air Fryer
Summer Squash has a lightly sweet taste, therefore we will not use extra or too much seasoning for this veggie because it will lose its original taste. This simple recipe can be used for all summer squash such as zucchini, pattypan squash, or crookneck squash.
Ingredients
- Yellow squash: Avoid taking big-sized squash because it has larger seeds and is also juicier than small squash. So, it turns into a mushy texture during cooking.
- Oil ( olive oil or you can use butter)
- Seasoning of your choice. (I used salt, pepper, and garlic powder)
Directions
Choose the right yellow squash. When it comes to selecting yellow squash, it's essential to pick the freshest ones possible. Look for squash that is firm to the touch and has a bright color. Avoid squash that is bruised, damaged, or has soft spots.
Prep the squash. Rinse it thoroughly under cold water, and then pat it dry. Next, you'll want to cut the squash into small slices. Aim for slices about ¼ inch thick (about 3mm), so that it will come out with crispy edges.
Season. You can season your yellow squash with a variety of different spices and herbs. I love to include garlic, basil, thyme, and oregano. You can also add salt and pepper if you like. Be sure to mix the seasoning with the squash slices and coat them evenly.
Air fry. Place the seasoned squash slices in the preheated air fryer basket and set the temperature to 390 degrees Fahrenheit (198C). Cook the squash slices for approximately five minutes on each side. Depending on your air fryer type, cooking time may vary, so remember to keep an eye on the squash to avoid burning.
Enjoy
Once the squash is cooked, take it out of the air fryer and serve it up as a side dish. It pairs well with a variety of different meals, like Air fryer grilled chicken, Steak, or even a veggie burger. This simple, yet flavorful side dish is sure to be a hit with the whole family.
Leftovers
The leftovers can be stored in an air-tight container for up to 3-5 days in the refrigerator. You can reheat them any time in the air fryer for 3 minutes at 380F. I love using leftovers in scrambled eggs, soups salads, or pasta.
