This simple recipe will have you enjoying juicy, flavorful air fryer cheeseburgers in no time. They're quick and effortless, and they always come out perfectly cooked. Air-fried burgers are my favorite way to use up the leftover ground beef.
Air Fryer Cheeseburgers
Not only we fell in love with homemade air fryer cheeseburgers, but the fact that I don't have to deal with a messy stove and grease splatter around it is priceless. For the same reason, I love making Ribeye steak or Steak Bites in the air fryer.
To start, preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. The machine that I use for my meats is Ninja XL Air Fryer Grill.
Form your burgers using ground beef, salt, and pepper to taste. Once the burger patties are formed, place them in the air fryer and cook for about 10 minutes for medium, or until they reach the desired level of doneness.
While the burgers are cooking, prepare your toppings. Cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles are all great options. Once the burgers are cooked, top them with your favorite toppings and enjoy!

Air Fryer Hamburgers Cooking Times
The key to making the perfect air fryer cheeseburger is to cook it for just the right amount of time.
If you cook the burger for too long, it will dry out and become tough. If you don't cook it long enough, the burger will be raw or undercooked.
The best way to ensure that your air fryer cheeseburger is cooked to perfection is to use a digital thermometer. Insert the thermometer into the center of the burger and cook until it reaches an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit (71.1° Celsius)
Based on my experience and the Ninja XL Air Fryer that I use for my burgers, the cooking times for ¾-inch thick air fryer cheeseburgers:
- 4 minutes per side at 400°F for Medium-rare
- 5 minutes per side at 400°F for Medium
- 6 minutes per side at 400°F for Well-done
Please don’t forget when you add the cheese to the burger and set it for another minute or two to melt, this count towards the cooking time.
Thickness matters: For thicker or thinner hamburgers adjust the cooking time accordingly.
Tips for the Best Juicy Air Fryer Burgers
Use ground beef that is at least 80% lean. Otherwise, your burgers may be too greasy.
The secret to a juicy burger is adding finely chopped onions and parsley. They help to moisten the meat and prevent it from drying out. They add texture and bulk to the burgers, making them more filling and satisfying.
Shape your patties slightly thinner than you would for traditional burgers. This will help them cook evenly in the air fryer.
Lastly, don't forget the cheese! Adding a slice of cheese to each burger will help to keep them moist and juicy.
Toppings
Try air fryer cheeseburgers with sauteed onions and mushrooms. The air fryer gives the burgers a crispy exterior, while the grilled onions and mushrooms add a juicy, flavorful twist.
Air-fried burgers with bacon and avocado. The bacon adds a salty, smoky flavor, while the avocado provides a creamy contrast.
For a truly indulgent treat, try air fryer hamburgers with blue cheese and caramelized onions. The rich, decadent flavors of blue cheese and caramelized onions will make your taste buds sing. We have an easy recipe for homemade blue cheese and air-fried caramelized onions.

Thanks for your cheeseburger recipe. I’d like to know how you toast the buns. I guess in the air fryer first? This would have been a good helpful hint too.
Thanks
