Crispy on the outside and juicy soft tender on the inside, these cheesy chicken fritters are a very delicious chicken recipe and so easy to make. They are full of protein, Keto, paleo, low carb, and whole-friendly, and melt-in-your-mouth delish.
The Best Cheesy Chicken Fritters
Cheesy chicken fritters are a popular dish made with chopped chicken, flour, eggs, and bread crumbs. I’m making a low-carb version, so instead of flour and bread crumbs, I’ve added almond flour and mayo. I love how versatile they are - you can add any number of ingredients to tailor them to your taste. In addition to being delicious, chicken fritters are also relatively simple to make and are always a hit with kids. They are definitely a family favorite in our house, and I'm sure your family will love them too!
Ingredients
- 2 pounds chicken breast thinly sliced or diced. I found the easiest way to thinly slice chicken is to chop the raw chicken breast using the food processor. My Braun Multiquick does the thinly minced chicken in just a few seconds.
- ¾ cup Mayonnaise (Can substitute for low-fat or fat-free mayo)
- 1 cup Mozzarella cheese, shredded (Can sub for cheddar cheese)
- ¾ cup Almond flour (Can substitute for all-purpose flour)
- 2 large eggs
- 3 TBS Fresh dill, finely chopped
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Oil for frying ( I use Avocado Oil)
- Optional: 1 small onion, finely chopped
Directions
- In a large bowl combine all the ingredients together and mix them well. Cover with the lid and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Heat the frying pan on medium-high and add 1 TBS oil. Reduce heat to medium.
- Scoop a tablespoonful of the chicken mixture and place it on the frying pan. Tip: Use the help of a spatula and shape it into a round shape, approximately ¾ inch thick.
- Depending on the size of your frying pan, you should have 4 chicken fritters per pan.
- Fry for 3 ½ (three and a half ) minutes per side or till golden brown color and the fritter is cooked through. Tip: For faster results, I used two frying pans at the same time. The pan that I use is a 10″ Zyliss frying pan.
- Remove from pan onto the plate, let cool for a minute and enjoy!
Lemony Dill sauce dip:
- 2 TBS Mayonaise
- 2 TBS Sour cream
- 1 TBS Lemon Juice
- A pinch of salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 garlic clove pressed
- Sprinkle with fresh chopped dill
Can I use Ground Chicken or Chicken Thighs?
While the traditional recipe calls for diced chicken breast, ground chicken works just as well and can be a great way to use up leftover chicken.
I love to mix chicken thighs together for these chicken patties. I find dark meat very moist and have a lot of flavors. Chicken thighs also have a higher fat content than chicken breasts, which makes them ideal for frying.
How to Serve Chicken Fritters?
- Besides the homemade Chipotle sauce try another dipping sauce, such as honey mustard or BBQ sauce.
- Serve them with a salad or coleslaw. Or put the chicken fritters on low-carb cloud bread buns for a nice tasty chicken burger.
- For a heartier meal, pair them with rice and beans or roasted vegetables.
- And of course, don't forget the garnishes! Chopped parsley, green onions, or dill are always a nice touch.
What other meat can be used for fritters?
Almost any type of meat can be used in fritters, from chicken and fish to beef and pork. Common additions include diced onions, bell peppers, cheese, and herbs. The key is to chop the ingredients into small pieces so that they cook evenly and bind together well. One of the advantages of using meat in fritters is that it provides a hearty and satisfying meal.
Recipe notes and substitutions
- The food processor does a very good job of dicing the chicken in seconds. Or you can still thinly slice chicken breast using a sharp kitchen knife.
- You can substitute for all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour if you prefer.
- You can substitute for another grated cheese of your choice.
- If you like onion, I definitely suggest adding one small onion, finely chopped. It adds an amazing taste of caramelized golden crispiness on the outside and a juicy center on the inside.
- I used Himalayan Pink salt for less saltiness and versatile seasoning.
- You can substitute for your favorite sauce dip. Mayo/ketchup combo is wonderful too. Or try a homemade Chipotle mayo and Homemade Copycat Chick-Fil-A Sauce.
How to Store Chicken Patties
Chicken patties can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or they can be frozen. Reheat them in the air fryer or toaster oven for 2 minutes until warm through or eat them cold right out of the fridge.

These would be good made with lump crab meat and served with cocktail sauce and/or ranch dressing.
Sharon
I make these on a baking sheet in a 400 degree oven, flipping halfway through cooking. I find it's easier than frying a few at a time in a skillet. You could also use a cast iron skillet in the oven. Let them get nice and crispy.
