My idea of good air fryer garlic bread is pretty simple: crispy golden edges, a soft buttery middle, and enough garlic that nobody should be planning a first kiss afterward.

I use both fresh garlic and garlic powder, spread the butter generously over sliced baguette, and air fry until the edges are nicely toasted. I like the bread to have a little crunch without turning the whole slice into a crouton.
It’s also really good topped with my “Air Fryer Roasted Tomatoes“. Add a little fresh basil, and you’ve practically got bruschetta without much extra work.
What You’ll Need
- French baguette: Cut into ¾-inch slices. Italian bread works too if you prefer larger, softer pieces.
- Butter: Softened, so it spreads easily without soaking the bread.
- Fresh garlic: Finely grated or minced for the best distribution.
- Garlic powder: Just a little to boost the garlic flavor.
- Fresh parsley: Optional, but adds freshness and color.
- Salt: A small pinch, especially if you’re using unsalted butter.
You can also split the baguette in half lengthwise and butter the cut sides instead. I keep mine sliced — every piece gets crispy edges all the way around while the center stays soft, and the slices cook evenly in a single layer.
How to Make Garlic Bread in the Air Fryer
1. Mix the garlic butter. Combine softened butter, finely grated garlic, garlic powder, parsley, and salt in a small bowl. Mash everything together with a fork.
2. Butter the bread. Spread the mixture evenly over one side of each baguette slice, reaching all the way to the edges.

3. Air fry. Arrange the slices buttered side up in a single layer. Air fry at 350°F for 5–7 minutes, checking around 4 minutes, until the edges are golden and the centers are still soft.

4. Serve warm. Add a little extra parsley or Parmesan if you like. No flipping needed.

Make It Cheesy
For cheesy garlic bread, sprinkle shredded mozzarella (about ½ cup for 8 slices) over the buttered slices before air frying. Air fry at 350°F for 5–7 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and just starting to turn golden at the edges. A spoonful of grated Parmesan under the mozzarella adds extra flavor. Serve right away, while the cheese still pulls.

Three Things Worth Knowing About Air Fryer Garlic Bread
The garlic matters more than you think. Finely grated garlic blends into the butter much better than large chopped pieces, which can brown too quickly under the heating element.
Bread thickness changes everything. Thin slices crisp up fast, sometimes too fast. I prefer approximately ¾-inch slices so the center stays soft while the edges get golden.
More butter isn’t always better. A thick puddle of butter can leave the middle greasy rather than crisp. Spread it evenly, and save a little for brushing after cooking if you want an extra-buttery finish.
What to Serve With Garlic Bread
I like garlic bread with something saucy, so there’s a good excuse to use the last piece to wipe the plate clean.
Try it alongside my “Turkey Chili” or “Air Fryer Steak Bites“. It also makes a great addition to a game-day spread with “Air Fryer Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings“.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my garlic bread hard instead of crispy?
It was probably cooked too long, sliced too thin, or both. Air fryers remove moisture quickly, especially from small baguette slices. Try thicker slices and check them a minute or two earlier.
Why use both fresh garlic and garlic powder?
Fresh garlic gives you the real garlic bite, and it spreads evenly through the butter. The garlic powder boosts the flavor and reaches the spots the fresh garlic misses. One kind of garlic isn’t enough for me — together, the bread tastes garlicky all the way through.
Can I make garlic bread ahead of time?
Yes! Mix the garlic butter up to 2 days ahead and refrigerate it in an airtight container. You can also assemble the bread and freeze the uncooked slices. Air fry directly from frozen, allowing a few extra minutes.
Can I make air fryer garlic bread without fresh garlic?
Absolutely. Use garlic powder instead. Start with about ½ teaspoon for 4 tablespoons of butter, then adjust to your taste. It’s convenient and gives a milder, more evenly distributed garlic flavor.
