What are Canned Potatoes?
Canned potatoes (or tinned potatoes) are a type of small potatoes that have been peeled, cooked, and canned in a sealed container. They are typically sold in either whole or diced form and can be found in the supermarket. Canned potatoes have the following ingredients:
- Potatoes
- Water
- Salt
- Sodium Chloride (firming agent)
How to Make Air Fryer Canned Potatoes
Simply toss your whole new canned potatoes with your favorite seasoning and cook for a few minutes. The potatoes will come out crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

- 1 jar of canned potatoes, Whole new potatoes (Picture 1)
- 1 Tablespoon oil
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon pepper, or to taste
- ½ teaspoon dried rosemary
- ½ teaspoon dried parsley

- Parmesan Cheese, a sprinkle of (optional)
How to make
- Preheat your air fryer to 390 degrees Fahrenheit (195 degrees Celsius).
- Drain the potatoes from the can, rinse them slightly under running cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. (Pictures 2 and 3).
- Toss them in oil and seasoning.
- Add seasoned potatoes to your air fryer basket and spray lightly with cooking spray.
- Next, air fry them for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Turn them on the other side halfway.
- Sprinkle with Parmesan, if desired
Pro Tip: Rinsing potatoes will reduce the sodium content.
Note: I cooked the canned potatoes whole. They are small enough. You can choose to cut them in halves or even thinner. Flip them a few times while cooking and adjust the cooking time, since smaller potatoes may need less time to cook.
How to store Canned Potatoes
Store cooked potatoes in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Reheat them in the air fryer at 350F/175C for 2 minutes per side.
What to serve with Canned New Potatoes?
For a classic pairing, serve them with juicy chicken breast or steak. The savory flavors of the potatoes will complement the rich taste of the meat.
Pair roasted potatoes with air-fried Salmon. The light, flaky texture of the fish will contrast nicely with the hearty potatoes.
Serve with roasted vegetables. The smoky flavors of the vegetables will add an interesting twist to the traditional dish.
