1 cup Doritos, spicy Takis (or any other hot cheese puffs can be used)
1 large egg, beaten,
3 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
8 sticks mozzarella string cheese ( I cut the mozzarella sticks in half, so technically I used 4)
1. For best results I like to use fresh Mozzarella cheese, cut into a string cheese shape. I feel that fresh Mozzarella is much softer, juicier, tastier, and cheesier. But of course, feel free to use the pre-made string cheese
2. Keep the cheese in the fridge right up until the recipe calls for it. You want to keep the cheese cool as long as possible.
1. Pre-heat air fryer to 375°F / 190°C
2. Place spicy Doritos, Takis, or cheese puffs in a food processor and blend until crumb consistency, about 30 to 45 seconds. I use a Braun Multiquick food processor.
3. Place crumbs in a medium bowl. Place beaten egg in a second medium bowl and flour in a third medium bowl.
4. Coat cheese sticks in flour, then egg, then crumbs.
5. Carefully coat one more time in the egg, then another layer of crumbs. (This is optional)
6. Carefully place sticks in a lightly greased air fryer basket (tray), making sure not to overcrowd them.
7. Cook 5 minutes flipping halfway. Or until crispy on the outside and cheese is melted on the inside.
Yum. Enjoy!
My Takis-loving teen is obsessed with Takis and now obsessed with Takis Mozzarella sticks.
