Air Fryer Pineapple Puff Pastry
I’m a pineapple lover who also enjoys a good puff pastry! I love how fresh pineapple offers a nice sweetness and tropical flavor, while the puff pastry gives a crispy flaky warm contrast. It's a quick and easy dessert that I can make in my air fryer in minutes, without heating up my whole kitchen. More of my favorite fluffy quickies are Air fryer Mushroom Puff Pastry and Easy Air Fryer Donuts.
Ingredients
- Puff pastry squares, thawed. The size of one square is approx. 3.5” (9cm)
- Pineapple rings, fresh or canned
- Pinch of Cinnamon
- Pinch of brown sugar
- Powdered sugar, optional
- Fruit for decoration, optional
How to Make Air Fryer Puff Pastry Tarts
Cut the fresh pineapple into circles and pat them dry with paper towels.
On a cutting board, lay out 2 plain puff pastry squares and cut them into strips about ¼ inch wide (picture 1). We’ll call these strips the “decorative pieces”. They will be placed on top of a pineapple puff for decoration.
Preheat the air fryer to 350F/177C for 3 minutes
Place 4 empty puff pastry squares in the air fryer tray and cook for 2 minutes until one side is golden. Pictures 2 and 3.
Flip the puff pastry squares to the other side. Picture 4.
Place the pineapple rings on top and make a preferred decoration using the cut-out puff pastry strips.
Using your fingers, press gently and seal one end of the strip to the bottom sheet so it stays in place. Place the second end of the strip under the pineapple ring. Gently press.
Sprinkle with cinnamon and/or brown sugar if desired.
Air fry for 3 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown, crispy and flaky
Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
How to Store and Reheat Air Fryer Pineapple Tarts?
Store them in the container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat them in the air fryer later for a minute or two, to bring back their fluff and crisp.
Note: If you use pineapple jam instead of pineapple rings then you can store them at room temperature because jam can stay fresh for some days.
Serving and Topping Variations
Serve this Air Fryer Pineapple Puff Pastry with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for a delicious treat.
Top the puff pastry with whipped cream and a sprinkle of chopped nuts, such as pecans or almonds.
For a savory twist, top your Air Fryer Pineapple Puff Pastry with a dollop of chili sauce or salsa.
For a tropical twist, you could also top the pastry with mango slices or shredded coconut.
What are the Alternatives to Puff Pastry Squares?
If you don't have puff pastry squares handy, you can purchase puff pastry dough, and roll it with the rolling pin. Then cut it into a 3-inch squares
Use canned flaky biscuits
Phyllo dough is another option that can be used in place of puff pastry. Phyllo dough is paper-thin and creates a crispy crust when baked.
