Grow Green Onions from Green onions

April 15, 2014 by Irina 1 Comment

growing green onions from green onions

Do you like scallions (green onions)?  Do you want to learn how to easily grow them right in your kitchen?  Well I have to tell you it is allot easier than it sounds.  You don’t need any messy dirt or seeds.  All you need are some organic scallions from the supermarket, a tall mug or glass, water, and some sunlight.  Okay so next time you go to the supermarket buy a bundle of scallions.  Cut the top portions of the scallions off for use.

Next place the root portion of the scallions in a tall mug or glass that is filled with water.

You can also use a small vase or other tall upright container provided it is medium weight and wont tip over easily.  Place the container on a sunny windowsill and wait.  After a couple of days you should start to see new scallion stalks begin growing out of the roots.  After every couple of days make sure you change the water in the glass container.  With in a week or a week and a half  you will have new green onions that are ready to cut and enjoy in your favorite salad or dish. This is a great way to save some money and be a little more self-sufficient.
