The word of the day is green smoothie. Well let’s not just make it the word of the day lets make it the word for the year. 2014 is going to be the year of the smoothie. If anyone has been following health magazines, blogs, and various infomercials they can’t seem to stop talking about the health benefits of drinking fruit and vegetable smoothies. Over the past several years we have all heard about the many benefits of juicing vegetables and fruits. Or how you get a concentrated dose of all the good things found in nature. Now it seems that the push is to not only use the juice of the fruits and vegetables but everything else as well. We are talking pulp, fiber, roughage, seeds, and more.
Along those lines I figured this would be a good opportunity to post a tasty and healthy juice recipe that I concocted over the weekend. First off before you even attempt to complete this recipe you need a competent blender that can smooth out any fruit or vegetable you put into it. For example at our house we use the Ninja blender to make our smoothies. The Ninja blender has multiple blades that are not just on the bottom but spread out vertically. This insures that whatever you are mixing or blending gets a thorough slicing and dicing. There are other competent blenders or smoothie makers on the market. The only other one I tried was the Bullet and it was pretty good for making small amounts of smoothies. Okay so you have waited long enough here is my new energized smoothie recipe:
Ingredients:
2 Bananas (sliced)
3-4 apples (sliced)
1- Packet of Green Vibrance Powder from Vibrant Health
3-5 Ice Cubes –Optional
½ to 1 cup of water (depending on how thick you like your smoothie)
Basically you peel and slice your bananas and put them in the blender. Do the same to your apples. You can remove the seeds if you like. Add the packet of powdered Green Vibrance. This is a powder that contains organic greens and freeze dried grass with about 25 billion probiotics. You can find it at your local Vitamin Shoppe or online. Then add ice cubes if you want it chilled and ½ a cup of water to start. Blend on high for a minute. Check the consistency by pouring some into a glass and giving it a taste. If you want it to be thinner add more water or juice. Other options would be to add any of your favorite berries or pineapple to the mix. Feel free to mix and match to your hearts desire.
