Valentine Egg in a Toast

February 7, 2014 by Irina 1 Comment

When I think about Valentine’s Day, images of candy hearts, roses, chocolates, and cupid usually come to my mind.  I usually don’t think about eggs and toast.  Well except for the breakfast in bed that I always hope my husband will cook for me,  eggs are usually associated with Easter.  For now I want to get all of you thinking about eggs and toast when it comes to Valentine’s Day.  Your probably wondering how am I going to get you thinking that way?  It’s simple I’m going to share a little recipe with that I recently learned about.  It’s not so much a recipe but a cooking technique involving eggs and bread (egg in a toast)

Valentine Egg in a Toast

First you take some lightly toasted bread and cut out a heart shape from the middle.  I don't have a heart shaped cookie cutter so I used a kitchen knife. Be careful not to get close to the edges otherwise you will break through the crust.  After careful removing a heart shaped piece of the bread set it aside on a plate.  You can do this to one or as many slices of bread as you like.  Then place the pieces of bread with the heart holes into a hot buttered frying pan.  Once the pan is hot enough carefully add one unscrambled egg to each heart hole.  Add it right to the middle of the heart hole. Cover the pan and cook over low heat for a couple of minutes until the yolk is done.  Using a spatula carefully remove the bread with egg inside onto a plate.  Serve up with the Heart shaped pieces of bread from before and a couple of pieces of chocolate and voila you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day breakfast.  Now all I have to do is teach my husband how to do this before the 14th.  Happy Valentine's Day!

My kids love these. We make them all the time. I will have to make heart shapped ones for them for Valentines Day! They will love it. Thanks for sharing 🙂
