Last night the news were telling us the First Snow Storm 2014 Hercules is arriving to New York City, New York and surrounding areas so we were all watching it and sitting by the window to see the snow and still nothing!
Finally at about 9 pm the snow began developing and by the time I put my kids to bed around 10 pm we started seeing some nasty wind and bad snow accumulating half or 1 inch every 20 minutes. My husband and I were going outside shoveling snow taking turns. Around 11:30 PM I saw the pictures like this

My kid’s school principals called this evening to advise us that they would call us tomorrow at 6 AM in the morning to let us know if the New York City Schools were cancelled and closed today. I was sure to be praying and hoping for the best that they would not be cancelled. lol. But In my heart I already knew that this is a bad storm so I prepared myself.
The 6:30 AM Wake up call – no school today WOOHOO! My Husband took this call and then later he told me he could now fall asleep for another hour.. lol
Well anyways the highlights of this story is when my finally woke up husband and kids went outside (Around 1 PM) to shovel in the front and back of the house and the kids went to play in the snow – I prepared to layering and clothing my kids as if they were going to the North Pole (Because the news scared me that there are “brutal cold temperature outside” (like minus 20 F or something taking in effect the wind gusts) and they kept repeating the word “brutal cold” many times. So I put 3-4 extra layers of shirts on my kids, 2 layers of gloves, warm hats and good water proof winter boots.
5 minutes later the kids went outside, my 11 – year old son comes back in very upset! He stepped one foot in our “Fish Pond” (Currently with no fish) His foot and boot are soaking wet! He was apparently testing out if the water froze good enough 🙂
Good lesson to learn as my son was asked multiple times over the years not to try and test out the small pond’s freezing water. But today was the day! Sadly he could no longer go outside as his socks and boot was soaking wet and he had not other boots to wear. He was asking and begging me for an hour and I almost lost my patience but we still couldn’t find the appropriate boots for him to wear in the snow.
Meanwhile my princess was enjoying the snow outside to the fullest.
The funniest part and top this story off is when my husband after shoveling all snow backyard and front-yard has decided to play with my daughter for little bit (they were playing some barbies in the snow, dolls and snow Frisbee) . My daughter threw the frisbee to the other side of our small yard and as my husband was attempting to collect the Frisbee he accidentally got his foot totally fall and stuck in the same small pond. So glad it was at the end of the shoveling journey.
He claims that he did not see the pond opening as the wind, snow and gusts totally covered it. Blaaaahhhhhh
