This is a sponsored post for Huntington Learning Center. All opinions and experiences are our own.
This academic year our 16-year-old son started 11th grade. Just writing this gives me a bit of anxiety. For one it makes me have to admit that our little boy is growing up and is almost ready to move on with the next stage in his life. This is a huge step for any child and definitely comes with some added stress for everyone in the family.
One of our biggest concerns is how well he does on the SAT and ACT exams. He does very well in school and is a diligent student but for some reason standardized exams have never been his strong suit.
So we decided to get an expert opinion and evaluation of where he stands academically. We reached out to the Huntington Learning Center in East Northport, N.Y. After discussing our options over the phone, it was recommended that we set up an appointment for a practice exam and evaluation for our son. We made the appointment for the following week and were told to allow around 4-hours for testing.

We arrived at the Huntington Learning Center for our 2 pm appointment and were greeted by the Assistant Director Michaela. She asked our son several questions about his testing experiences and academics and based on his answers determined that the ACT practice exam rather than the SAT would be a better fit for him.

Huntington Learning Center in East Northport, NY location set our son up in a private room and he began taking the exam
After filling out some paperwork she set him up in a private room and he began taking the exam. While this was going on Michaela gave us a tour of the Huntington Learning Center. She showed us the areas where the 1 to 1 test prep tutoring occurred and the other areas where more generalized tutoring took place. I have to say we were very impressed with the way the center was organized and the positive messages and slogans that could be found throughout. In our opinion it felt like a place that is very conducive to learning and supporting the development of young minds.
After the exam we were told that the results and comprehensive analysis would be available in approximately 2 days. We made an appointment for the following week to go over the results. After leaving the center we asked our son his opinion about the experience. He said he found the ACT to be a bit difficult and unfamiliar. This was expected since he has only been exposed to the SAT at his high school. He was particularly concerned about not being able to finish all of the questions and having difficulty with the science section.
The following week we returned to Huntington Learning Center and met with Lori the Director of Huntington Learning Center. We were provided with a binder that provided an item analysis of our son’s ACT practice exam. Lori showed both expertise and patience while discussing the results with us.

The following week we returned to Huntington Learning Center and met with Lori the Director of East Northport location, and her assistant. We were provided with a binder that provided an item analysis of our son’s ACT practice exam. Lori showed both expertise and patience while discussing the results with us.
The different sections of the exam were explained in detail as well as the specific areas that our son needs to focus on. Lori showed support and enthusiasm when discussing the potential of our son. It was refreshing to see that she included him in the conversation as well. Letting him know that he plays an integral part in this process and that his success and improvement are a common goal. Looking over at him I could see that he appreciated the fact that he was being asked questions and was allowed to provide his own feedback.
Towards the end of our meeting Lori, the center director, went over the recommended tutoring program, the cost, and the payment options that are available. All of the ACT Test Prep tutoring would be 1 to 1. The center recommended we sign our son up for the 50-hour program to get him prepared for an ACT exam in December.
We were informed that they do offer payment plans one of which offers 0% interest. This could definitely help to spread the financial cost out over the course of the year. During our discussions we did not feel pressured at all to sign up. We were encouraged to think things over and Lori provided her contact information if we had any questions.
Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with the Huntington Learning Center in East Northport. We found them to be caring and enthusiastic when it came to the success of our son. Everyone at the center was genuine and at no time did we feel any sales pressure. We look forward to signing our son up for an ACT Test Prep tutoring program with Huntington.
