3 Easy ways to boost gut health

        Have you ever heard the phrase, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”?  I’m sure the same can be said about many women as well.  I for one enjoy a good meal and love trying exciting new foods.  

      You cannot talk about food these days without mentioning digestion, food allergies and sensitivities.  It seems like every restaurant has gluten and nut free options on their menus.  This is a good thing since I read several articles that relate gut health to your overall health.  Meaning that if you take care of your digestive system you will have a better chance of keeping the rest of your body healthy.  It all makes sense when you think about it.  I mean our body needs the nutrients and vitamins from food in order to run efficiently.  If our digestive systems are not working at optimal efficiency then our body cells are not going to function properly.  

This is where the importance of probiotics and prebiotics come into play.

3 Easy way to boost gut health

Eat more “live” culture.

Many of you consume beneficial bacteria everyday without even knowing it.  If you enjoy yogurts, Kefir, soft cheeses, sourdough bread, sour pickles and sauerkraut then you are already consuming some forms of probiotics.

Lower stress and get a good sleep

Stress plays major role in gut health. Stress can cause inflammation of the gastrointestinal system, and make you more susceptible to infection. Stress may cause you to stop processing food efficiently . Same of the ways you can get immediate relief for stress are:

  • Laugh
  • Sing and listen to the music – I specifically recommend re-mixes – the new twists on a traditional songs.
  • Take a walk (at least 30 minutes a day)
  • Take a deep breath

Then try herbal teas that can reduce stress, provide gas relief and promote a good sleep. Some of my favorite that work for me are: Chamomile, Peppermint or Mint, Dill, Basil, Cinnamon Parsley.

    I take prebiotics and probiotics every day. Gut health is so important because it has a huge impact on your overall health.

    I am always happy to hear a first-hand account of someone’s opinion on a product that is new to me. I do worry about my ‘gut health’ because it’s such a buzz phrase these days!
