DIY Witch doormat rug to decorate your doorstep

10/17/16 | Entertainment

This Witch doormat is going to be your new favorite Halloween tradition. It is simple, fun, and not a scary! I have young children and I love when we go to a house that has kid friendly Halloween decorations.

boo-witch-doormat

Another thing I love about this is that you can have this doormat if you live in a house, apartment, condo, town home, tent, heck even an igloo. The point is that this is a doormat and with this simple witch doormat you’ll get tons of compliments!

I will first include the tutorial of how to make the BOO! on the mat, and then how make the witch legs to finish the complete witch doormat. At the end of the post I will include the free BOO! printable that you can use to paint on the mat.

BOO! Witch doormat tutorial:

Supplies:
-Cheap doormat – Found here! (I found mine at Walmart for under $4, it will vary online and at each local store)
-Paint supplies acrylic paint & doppler brushes – (I found my paint at Walmart for under one dollar!)
-Xacto knife –Found here – if you don’t have an xacto knife, then buy one! They’re so worth it. It is a craft knife to make cutting out letters so easily. It’s definitely worth the $4-$6!
-BOO! Printable (found at the BOTTOM of this post. This printable includes 4 pages. Each letter will cover an 8.5×11 page. See picture below for details.)

witch-doormat-collage

The cost for this part of the project was only $5.50 for me. This doormat took me only took me 2 simple steps and it was under 5 minutes.

Step 1:

witch-doormat-b

First, cut out your BOO! letters. Once they’re cut out, put tape on the paper to hold it down. Paint the letters on and let it dry. It only took me one layer of paint on this type of rug. You can do however many layers you think you’ll need.

REMINDER – When you cut the letters out, you will keep the outline of the letters. Not the actual letter. (SEE PICTURE ABOVE!)

Step 2:

witch-doormat-doppler

I put polka dots on my letter because I love polka dots! The best things came into my life when these Doppler paint brushes were invented. They make the perfect polka dot! They are something I have always needed because I can never get a perfect dot. The best part about these dopplers is the price. Only $2-4 for a pack of 8 variety dopplers.

HOW TO MAKE WITCH LEGS FOR WITCH DOORMAT

witch-doormat-legs

Seriously, if you want to add a little more cuteness to your doormat, make it a witch doormat! It is so simple.

You will need:
-Pool noodle cut in half – Hopefully you have some left over from summer, you can find some on Walmart.com, but you have to buy them in bulk since it’s an off season.
-Striped witch tights or stockings – found here for only $4!
-Old high heels from your closet

Put a pool noodle in each stocking and tie the end. Put the high heels on the other end to make it look like the legs and you’re done! Put the witch legs under the doormat and your witch doormat is done!

witch-doormat-shoes

You can either leave your witch doormat plain, or add the BOO! for some more Halloween effect. Be ready for all those awesome compliments you’ll get this year.

        Here is the BOO! printable

                            —–> BOO <——
Once you click on the “BOO”, it will take you to a different page and 3 letters will show up. One on each page, including the exclamation mark.  4 pages total.

          Happy Halloween! halloween-savings-at-walmart

Most of our Halloween decorations have come from Walmart, We decorate the whole front of the house with lights, scarecrows, skeletons, bats, pumpkins. We started doing this when our grandchild was young, she is now 17 and a senior in high school but we now have a 2 yr old grandson so it makes it all worth while and look out for christmas.
